Advice appreciated re trip
My passport expired in summer 2013 and I hadn't needed to get it renewed between then and now, wasn't planning any trips, so didn't bother. Was going to do it in the New Year 2015. Well that decision is biting me in the arse now.

It isn't definite, but possible that I may need to go to Eire, maybe with only a day's notice, at any time in the next few weeks.

I don't have a driving licence, either, or any other form of acceptable photo ID.

I have looked at the passport office website and it doesn't look good. They are talking about a 3 week wait for an appointment to do the premium one day service thingy.

The reason for my trip would be a genuine medical emergency, and I probably wouldn't have any problems getting a letter from a medic to confirm that.

Does anybody know if there are any loopholes or established proceedures to be able to fly without a passport in cases like these?

The 'emergency travel document' seems to be for Brit passport holders living abroad, unless I have read that incorrectly.

Thanks for any genuine replies.

So even you are a windup poster? Fuck sake, I truly give up.

You won't getma prize for Frankie/Son of Anarchy's post on this thread, OneMc. Far too predictable, he is.

Renewed my passport recently using the Check and send thing through the Post office for an extra 4 or 5 quid. Took about a week before I got my passport delivered. Almost certainly quicker than the 1 day thing, which always has a long waiting list.

Local post office will sort it for you. Will charge extra but worth it.

You are clever enough to know it's better to just go to the embassy or the local government (in some way) than posting on here with this kind of question.

None I've ever heard of, but I'm no expert. Driving licence certainly won't help as Ireland is as different a country as Brazil. How long does it take to get a provisional licence? You could fly to NI with one (with an appropriate airline - some still want passports).

Perhaps call other passport offices, rather than London - they may not be as busy. Actually, have you spoken to anyone? Give them a call, there may be ways of rushing you through.

It may have changed recently given all the delays talked about this summer , but I have in the recent past been able to pick up a new passport within a day or so by making an in person application at the passport office behind Victoria Station.

OTB - didn't get the chance to call the passport office today, long story I can't go into. This is a very sudden situation.

Won't be a problem, Ratched son. Earlier this year, my old dear had to fly to oz after the death of her brother. Her passport was with the dvla. ..long story short, passport office were actually quite helpful and issued a permit to travel (I think that's what it was called) within 24 hours.

Worth giving them a call to discuss, you might need to lie that it's already happened, if you get what I mean

I assumed that'd be the case. If I may state the obvious - there's probably some kind of helpline, they're bound to be open tomorrow.

Eaststanders - BINGO!

It might just be.

I could use Easyjet instead of Ryanair and it suggests it should be accepted. Many thanks, mate. Really appreciate it xx
